Luz Doc - Meeting the Demands of a Growing Population


Luz Doc has 18 years of medical experience in the Algarve: as the population in the region has grown, so has the range of services provided in the Luz/Lagos area. It is Luzdoc's objective to provide complete and comprehensive, round-the-clock health care service to all its clients. The good news is that the practice is expanding, both in services provided and in premises.

Luzdoc offers a comprehensive range of services to clients, which can be summarised as follows:

General and Specialist Consultations: general medicine, orthopaedics, paediatrics, ENT, gynaecology, obstetrics, dermatology, nutrition, physiotherapy, psychology, counselling and chiropody.

Healthy Woman/Mother & Baby/Prenatal Clinic: Luzdoc will shortly be offering comprehensive health care before, during and after pregnancy as well as a special health programme for women of all ages.

Blood analysis/ECG/X-ray/Lung function: Using on-site diagnostic aids, doctors can make instant and precise evaluation of a patient's condition, helping speedier recovery.

Preventative medicine (Health check-ups and vaccinations): Prevention is, indeed, the best cure, and this is achieved by having regular check-ups rather than waiting for symptoms to become alarming.

Day patient care: for IV treatment (re-hydration, medication) observation and chemotherapy.

In patient's / 'sister facility': in patient care can be arranged when necessary, according to the clinical situation. Jackie's House, a sister facility providing appropriate accommodation for long-term care and recovery, is now fully operational.

Domicile medical car (Doctor and Nurse): A 24 hour service is available for patients who require a home visit. Nursing at home is also available, on a short or long term basis.

Ambulance: Luzdoc has the use of a private ambulance for transportation.

Insurance: Luzdoc has agreements with most major medical insurance companies, and can assist with the administration of claims where appropriate.

Rental of medical equipment: Equipment such as wheelchairs, Zimmer frames, commodes and crutches can be rented on a short or long term basis.

Clinic at Parque da Floresta: There is a small surgery at Spa Floresta. During the summer months there are daily consulting hours to augment the usual nurse with doctor on permanent call.

The team at Luzdoc can, between them, speak all of the following languages: Portuguese, English, Dutch, German, French, Italian, Polish, Spanish and Russian. They understand the importance of a friendly, efficient staff to deal with clients and their families in times of illness, especially if they are in a foreign country.
